Please introduce yourself:
Hi, I’m Terri Bannon, co-owner of Razor Sharp Fitness, which has been operating in Racine for 15 years. Yes, it’s hard to believe it’s been that long and I am so thrilled to have been a part of such a worthwhile endeavor of offering the Racine community programs and services which have had a positive impact on people’s health and fitness.
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from “up North” where I spent my first 18 years in Antigo. It was a great place to grow up with lots of winter and summer outdoor activities. I went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then worked in Madison for several years before taking a job in Milwaukee.
How did your life’s journey bring you to Racine?
Shortly after moving to Milwaukee, I met my husband Mike. He was working in Racine and when we got married we decided to make Racine our home.
What do you like best about Racine?
I love living so near to Lake Michigan. There’s no better way to enjoy the outdoors than to go for a walk, run or bike ride along the lakefront. Plus, we have a great downtown with lots of unique shops and great restaurants. I also like having such close proximity to Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison. I still get to live in relatively “small” town but can easily travel to a bigger city and enjoy all that it has to offer.
What’s the least understood aspect about your business?
The least known aspect of our business is the size of the Washington Avenue club. I can’t tell you how many times we have given tours of the facility and the most common comment is “I had no idea you were this big.” I think this is due to how our building is situated on the property and as you drive by you just can’t see the depth of the facility and see that there are pools, a gymnasium and an indoor track on the property.
What would you like to accomplish during the next 12 months?
This year we are implementing two new programs. One of them is the Racine Golf Academy. There is no other program like this in Racine. Based on the Titleist Performance Institute, it will offer golf enthusiasts a thorough assessment of their golf swing along with corrective action plans. We know that not all golf swings are the same so RGA will enhance your swing to send your golf game to the next level.
The other program is called 20 Pounds/30 Days Fast Track, which is a weight loss and wellness program, based on reducing stress, balancing hormones and healthy eating. We just launched 20/30 in January and have already had extremely positive feedback. The initial participants have had successful weight loss, and have experienced other health benefits including increased energy, better sleep, decreased headaches and acid reflux and lower blood pressure. We’re very excited to offer this comprehensive program. It complements our fitness programming and reinforces our mission of improving the overall well-being of the Racine community.
