Please introduce yourself:
Hi, my name is Lisa Parham. I’m the owner of the Racine Mirror and The Insider News Racine newspapers and a radio host for “It’s the God in You Gospel Hour of Power.”
Where are you from originally?
I’m originally from here, born and raised in Racine.
How did your life’s journey bring you to Racine?
My parents are from the south. They married there and moved up here to start a family with the hope to provide a better life. Racine has always been home to me.
What do you like best about Racine?
What I like most about Racine is our beautiful lakefront, I like our zoo area, I like where it sits and have always felt that Racine has opportunities for people to succeed. I’m pleased with the people who help keep and make our city safe.
Please give some examples of how your work has made a positive impact on the community.
I pride myself in providing positive news to the community through my newspapers and radio program. I have an unshakable belief in Christian values founded on my dedicated involvement in my church and inspiration from my beloved family. I’ve served on the board of directors of the Racine Symphony Orchestra and Racine Family YMCA. In 2015, I received the Unsung Heroes Award from the Milwaukee Black History Month Committee. In February 2014, I was the recipient of the Small Business Award from the Racine Heritage Ball. In 2013, I was recognized by the Racine Rotary West Club for high ethical standards and the advancement of international business values. For me, it’s all about heart, it’s all about caring, it’s all about love and how that love of God, self, family and community translates into action.
What’s the least understood aspect about your business?
The cost of advertisement, as I run across a lot of people who want something for nothing. I believe that my level of quality work provided speaks for itself. Also, I believe that some individuals do not understand how important advertisement can help build and grow their business. However, I believe people are now understanding the importance of both of these aspects as we continue to move forward.
What would you like to accomplish during the next 6 months? 12 months?
My goal for the next six to 12 months would be to continue to look at the possibility of becoming a bi-weekly instead of a monthly publication, increase my demographics and be able to employ more people.
