About the Owner:
Angela Espinoza literally grew up at her parents restaurant in Racine. Ramon and Bonnie Madrigal opened a Chinese restaurant called Golden Phoenix on Douglas Avenue in the late 1980s. Bonnie was an immigrant from Hong Kong and Ramon was an immigrant from Mexico. The couple had worked together at several Chinese restaurants in the Chicago area before opening their own restaurant in Racine. A few years later, they decided to change their cuisine to Mexican and opened Los Mariachis, first on Douglas in 1993 and then a second location in Milwaukee in 1996. They moved the Racine location to Washington Avenue in 2002. Ramon died in 2011 and Bonnie passed away in January 2018. After working in the restaurants since they were young, the couple’s three daughters continue to own and operate the restaurants. Sandra Madrigal owns the Milwaukee restaurant and Angela owns two Racine restaurants, the one on Washington Ave and a new Northside location she opened in 2016, Pico’s Tacos & Cerveza on 3 Mile Road and Erie Street. The legacy of the couple continues with their motto, “the only things in life worth having are family, a place to call home and good food.”
