About the Owner:
Diane and Robin Wilson, who were both practicing nurses and coffee lovers, decided to open the business to bring great coffee to Racine and establish a family business. They opened the second coffee shop in the Racine area, but have now been in business the longest. After researching different locations, they chose West Racine – initially in a building that was on the corner of Washington Avenue and West Boulevard. They moved two blocks west in 2000 and expanded their operation to include roasting their own coffee beans. Today, their adult children carry on the business. Daughter Renae does most of the baking and son Neal concentrates on roasting. He’s developed software for coffee roasting operations called Typica, which he provides free to the industry and continues to upgrade. It enables operators to produce better coffee by reducing operational errors, tracking inventory and equipment maintenance. He’s very active in the Specialty Coffee Association and the Coffee Roasters Guild and has taught roasting classes in Brazil, China, United Arab Emirates and the United States. He’s also writing a book for coffee roasters, which he expects to be out later this year.
