Racine’s incredible location on the shores of Lake Michigan, with our magnificent North Beach, and proximity to Milwaukee and Chicago are giant assets when it comes to attracting certain types of events. Namely, beach events, and Real Racine has lots of them this summer! But, we kick off the event season at Meadowbrook Country Club in Mount Pleasant on May 3-5 with the third annual American Junior Golf Association Preview event. Seventy-two of the best teenage golfers in the country will participate in the tournament which is their first step toward playing on the PGA or LPGA tour one day.
On the following weekend, Saturday May 12, it’s the Run Like a Mother 5K on the lakefront. There’s also a one mile run for the kids. Go to runlikeamother.com to register.
June finds North Beach being the base for some great sand volleyball action. On Saturday, June 8, the Badger Region Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships will be held. Badger Region will be back to North Beach on June 29-30 for its National Beach Tour Qualifier event and on Aug. 10-11 for the Badger Region Volleyball Beach Championships.
The national EVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour makes its annual stop at North Beach on June 15 with thousands of dollars in prize money at stake. It’s a free, family friendly event and a great way to spend your Father’s Day weekend.
The Epic Volleyball Club has several events this summer. They will occur on June 30 and July 28. The ROX volleyball series national qualifiers for boys and girls ages 12 – 18 take place on July 6 and 27. ROX brings their championship to North Beach on July 19-21.
North Beach is also the only Midwest stop for the Pro Watercross Tour with an event on July 13-14. See racers from around the world pilot their souped-up personal watercraft to speeds in excess of 70 mph in head-to-head competition on the giant course set up just offshore. It’s a FREE event. There’s also a freestyle competition each day. To check out the action, go to prowatercross.com.
The EVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour will also join them on Saturday. Jet skis and volleyball- all on the same weekend! Aug. 2-4 finds the Junior Volleyball Association Midwest Beach Championship making its way to Racine for the first time! Come on down and see some of the best junior volleyball players in the Midwest.
Another venue that is one of our most popular event sites is the Soccer Complex of Racine (SCORe) complex in Franksville. You may remember hear-ing about the United States Australian Football League (USAFL) National Championships that were held there last fall. Well, they’re back.
The USAFL Women’s National Team Tryouts will be held there Aug. 22-25. About 150 women from across the country are expected to compete for a spot on the U.S. National Team that will participate later this year at the World Championships in Australia. Come on by! They’d love to see you.
Lacrosse takes over Franksville on the weekend of Oct. 29-30 as the Lacrosse America Top Cheddar Tournament takes place. Another sport that needs a space larger than a football field is a perfect fit for Racine County. Lacrosse is new to Real Racine, but is growing at an amazing rate across the country. This is a big event, as we’re expecting about 4,000 players, coaches and families to attend.
Back on the lakefront, the inaugural Real Racine Half Marathon & 5K presented by Racine Toyota & Racine Honda will take place Sept. 28-29, 2019. This can’t-miss race offers great courses with perfect fall temperatures ideal for running. For those with longer distance ambitions, the half marathon is a great way to showcase your summer training or as a final tune-up for a later fall marathon. For those looking for a shorter distance, there is also a 5K run/walk option. Go to racinehalfmarathon.com for more information and registration.
